A pictogram is a schematic representation of data.
Each figure in the diagram represent a certain number.
This number is always next to or in the diagram.
Example
The people in a company, who will go on a holiday trip, are asked how they will travel to their holiday destination. The results are displayed in the pictogram below.

You can read off that 175 people will travel by car, 50 by coach, 100 by aeroplane and 50 by bicycle to their holiday destination.
